Spain
Wealth Visa
Spain offers a few options for immigrants to discover a new way of life there, either temporarily or permanently. One of them, the non-lucrative visa, offers temporary residency in a fashion similar to a rentier visa. Applicants must prove secure and stable income, which is why the option is popular with retirees. The non-lucrative visa does not allow any employment in Spain. After five years, non-lucrative visa holders can qualify for permanent residency. After 10 years, they can upgrade for citizenship. Nationals of Ibero-American countries often use this visa to qualify for Spanish citizenship after only one or two years.

Application Process
The Spain non-lucrative visa does not require an investment. Rather, you will need to demonstrate secure and stable income, and you are forbidden from having employment in Spain. This can be achieved by demonstrating pension income, a salary from abroad, bank deposits and other means. The minimum income amount slightly changes every year. For a single applicant, the minimum is EUR 2,151 a month. For each additional dependent, add EUR 538 a month.
Requirements
- Other than the financial requirements, to qualify for a Spanish non-lucrative visa, you will need to produce:
- A police clearance certificate issued by the authorities of all countries where you have resided in the last five years
- A medical certificate for each of your family members accompanying you
- Valid private or public health insurance covering your stay in Spain
Other requirements:
- The Spanish non-lucrative visa is initially valid for two years. You can then renew it for five-year periods, but you will have to show that you have lived in Spain for at least six months every year to be eligible for the renewals.
- Your spouse and minor children qualify as a dependent. Other relatives can be sponsored with financial assistance, but they need to file separate applications.
